A WOMAN was dragged along the road outside her Bury home as she desperately tried to prevent a thief from stealing her car.
The woman was pulled along after she grabbed hold of her car's wing mirror and refused to release her grip.
The incident happened after she pulled up outside her house in Rochester Avenue, Sedgley Park, in her blue Peugeot 206 convertible.
As she climbed out, a man ran up, pushed her to the ground and climbed into the Peugeot.
He began to drive away but the woman grabbed hold of the wing mirror and was pulled along for a short distance. She was eventually forced to let go.
The man had been in a light blue coloured sports car, registration K943 SKL, -- driven by an accomplice -- which has not yet been traced.
The incident happened at about 4.15pm on Monday.
Today police urged car owners in Bury to be on their guard.
PC John Flowers of Bury Police said: "It is important for drivers to be vigilant, especially when they are getting in and out of their cars."
"If you see anyone acting suspiciously nearby, stay in your car and keep the doors locked, or drive around the block until you feel secure.
"This woman was brave in what she did, but we would never recommend anyone
putting their lives in danger to try and save their car.
"Fortunately this lady only suffered cuts and scratches to her hands."
The Peugeot, registration MD51 FPU, has still not been recovered.
The thief is described as white, around 6ft of medium build and was wearing a light-coloured baseball cap and top.
Anyone with information about either of the cars or the offender is asked to contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8240 or call Crimestoppers on free phone 0800 555 111.
