THE "ICE Cube" is open and I am delighted to report that, even though the weather has been abysmal, it hasn't put the hardy ice skaters off!
Well done to all of you for supporting this year's Christmas attraction.
I would like to clarify a point about the Ice Cube, because some members of the public appear to be under the misconception that the attraction has been paid for out of ratepayers' money. This is not the case. The "Ice Cube" is not financed by your council tax, it is paid for by Bolton businesses supporting the event. You will notice that the rink is surrounded by advertising banners and it is they that cover the main cost incurred by Bolton Town Centre Company, a limited non-profit making company. All the money taken from the skaters (£3 per hour) helps to cover any outstanding amount we have paid. The rink has cost in excess of £40,000 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors for supporting it and Bolton Council for allowing us the use of Victoria Square for the event. However, I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has any comments about the rink and what they would like us to do in the future.
With just 18 more shopping days until Christmas, it is great to hear that Bolton town centre is attracting more shoppers than ever before, but no surprise to me. I shop in the town every day and believe we have a town centre to shout about. With your continued support our town centre will go from strength to strength.
Don't forget the shops are open late on Thursdays until 9pm and, in the week commencing December 16, most shops will be open till 7pm every night till Christmas Eve. Please remember that, on Christmas Eve, shops will close at 5pm.
You can still visit Santa in both the Market Hall and Crompton Place and, if you want your presents wrapped, the Market Place is now offering a gift wrapping service for a small donation (all proceeds to Fortalice).
The evening economy radio link is now up and running, alongside the daytime economy radio link, and with the police Christmas initiative "Operation Santa" now under way, Bolton should be a safer place than ever to shop.
