SOME years ago permission was given for a major housing development in Bromley Cross known as "Turton Heights", which should not have been allowed.

Now another major scheme is proposed in Egerton to change a "Business Park" into a "Housing Park" for 140 apartments. This would change the whole environment in Dewhurst Clough, affecting wildlife, destruction of mature trees, and filling in of lodges. It is supposed to be a conservation area.

With all the housing developments during the last few years, and more in the "pipeline", Egerton and Bromley Cross have great traffic problems, and little imagination is required to see the effects of another 250 or so vehicles. All the schools in the area are full, and bussing to other schools could adversely affect the children and exacerbate traffic problems. Sewage for the whole project would need to be dealt with in the development area, and problems could result.

I understand the Planning Committee will consider the application later this month, or next month, although the developers have assumed that permission will be given as many trees have been destroyed, lodges filled in, ground levelled and positions of new buildings pegged out.

If permission is given for this development, it can be assumed the next phase would be to convert existing buildings into apartments, thus adding to the chaos.
