YOUNG footballers want Chorley's Manchester United fans to put their money where their mouths are and bid in a charity auction.

The Central Lancashire Junior Football League, made up of 55 teams, has been given a signed Fabien Barthez shirt, which the teams have decided to auction in aid of a children's hospice.

So far the bidding is up to £100 but members hope to raise much more for the goalkeeper's top. Now the shirt is under lock and key at the home of the league secretary John Nelson -- a diehard Manchester City fan.

John said: "It's wrapped carefully away. It's all in a good cause so I grin and bear it."

The shirt, donated by a scout, is being auctioned on the internet to raise funds for Derian House Children's Hospice in Astley Village but the bids are just not high enough yet.

The league's Simon Shaw said: "I don't know if they're PNE fans (who are bidding) or what! I think it's worth more than £100. It's got an authentication certificate.

"We haven't had a lot of response. It's one of those things. The website has done it for free and it's to raise money for Derian House.

"They do a great job and we would just like to help them all we can."

Derian House spokesman Lisa Cooke said: "This type of support is very much appreciated."
