I DIDN'T know until Mr G.B. Dickinson, of Melbourne Grove, Horwich, came to see me that the Old Original Bay Horse pub in Horwich is also known as the Long Pull (and that despite me being a reporter in Horwich at the beginning of the 1960s!).
However, he brought me this picture taken, he thinks, in the late 1930s outside the pub; over the door it says William Smith, Licensed Brewer, so the beer may have been brewed at the pub in those days.
On the picture, second from left on the middle row, was his father-in-law Herbert Price, and others have been identified with the help of the present landlord and regulars.
Unfortunately, not all initials are known, but those on the picture are, back row: V. Bush, F. Allerton, Plumber, Riley, Adamson, Hart, Haworth, Smith. Middle row: Middlesborough, H. Price, Robinson, Edwards, Boardman, Cooper, Francis, Greenhalgh, Brown. Front row: Crowther, Green, Bullough, Chasty, Smith, Burke, Finch, Tudor, Farrington, Blake.
