HAVING read about the new by-law on drinking in the street in The Haulgh area, and your editorial on the subject, I have to laugh.
How about tackling the issue of the heroin addicts and prostitutes that have been hanging around the area for years first?
Does anyone really expect this token measure to make any difference? The prostitutes and their drug dealers hang around with what looks like impunity, and you expect an alcohol ban to make any difference?
Get real!
We need action on the real problems, ie the prostitutes and their drug dealers, not these gimmicks designed for local publicity for councillors and the police, who are missing, or avoiding, the real issue.
