RELIVE your "school daze" as SchoolDisco.com comes to Manchester Academy on Saturday (December 7), promising a night of bad break-dancing, queuing at the tuck-shop and snogging to slow songs.
The idea began when organiser Bobby Sanchez was fired from a top London club for playing Shakin' Stevens' "This Ole House", a song which reminded him of his exciting childhood.
He wanted to create a night out which would bring back a flood of memories of horrible dinners, assembly and writing out 100 lines, and allow customers to forget about a nine-to-five lifestyle, girlfriend problems, mortgages and responsibilities.
SchoolDisco.com has been cleaning up as clubland experiences a massive recession and dance music slips further out of the charts.
Launched in Manchester in December, 2001, the events grew into a full scale disco riot, complete with tuck shop for hungry pupils and strictly enforced school uniform dress code (proper school ties, not work ties.)
Each event attracts an average 2,500 people drawn in by the mix of 70s, 80s and 90s pop, rock, disco and retro, and is sold out every month.
Expect to hear Michael Jackson's Thriller alongside Elton John and Kiki Dee's Don't Go Breaking My Heart and Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell.
Dig out your white shirts and ties, get your shorts and skirts on and join the queue. And no pushing in!
