IN the recently published league tables for primary schools, Affetside's results were not published because the school had only eight eligible entrants, which may lead the public to feel that Affetside's pupils do not sit the SATS tests.

However, we should wish people to know that, despite the threat of closure of our excellent rural primary school, teachers and pupils worked hard to achieve pass rates of: 100 per cent English, 100 per cent Science and 87.5 per cent Mathematics at level 4 and above. We had good numbers of level 5s and for our first time a Level 6 achievement in Mathematics.

Much praise is due to staff and children during what has been a difficult year. How sad and how astonishing, when the Government professes to wish to improve educational performance targets, that the LEA in Bury wishes to close a school which is effectively 3rd out of 67 schools in the SATS league tables.
