THE Library Theatre Company has developed a reputation over the past few years for providing the perfect Christmas show alternative to pantomime.
Following on from The Borrowers and last year's Beauty and the Beast, the theatre features yet another children's favourite, Tom's Midnight Garden, this Christmas.
The show runs until January 25 and is adapted from the much loved classic book by Philippa Pearce.
It tells the story of a young boy, Tom, who goes to spend the summer at his aunt's house while his brother recovers from measles.
There is no garden to play in, and no friends of his own age to play with, but then one night Tom hears the grandfather clock in the hall strike 13 . . .
He discovers a magical transformation has taken place -- the hall seems different, its furniture has changed, there are different rooms -- but the most amazing discovery awaits Tom outside. Where during the day there is just a back yard, there is now a spacious and beautiful garden.
At midnight each night Tom explores its mysteries and meets Hatty, an orphaned girl of his own age, but who is growing up during Victorian times.
