SPECTACULAR fireworks have finished a year of centenary celebrations for pupils and staff at Mount St Joseph School in Farnworth.
The year-long programme of events began with 1902 Day when the pupils and staff dressed in turn of the century costumes and took lessons which would have been endured by their great, great grandparents.
More recently, the new school chapel, a major project during the year, was completed and blessed.
And last week the school invited The Pilgrims, a group of six Christian young people, into the classrooms to spread the gospel through drama, music and games.
The festivities came to an end with a grand disco and firework display at the school.
Mount St Joseph's was originally founded by the Sisters of the Cross and Passion in a cottage on Willows Lane, Deane, with one boy and four girl pupils.
It went on to become the first Catholic secondary school to be built under the Balfour Education Act and until 1979 it was an all girls convent school.
Among the school's ex-pupils is television comedian Peter Kay.
