FAVOURITES Charnock Richard moved into the quarter finals of the Lancashire Amateur Shield - thanks to their penalty marksmen.
Charnock were held 1-1 by home side Tempest United after 90 minutes and when extra time failed to produce a winning goal, the tie went to penalties.
Tempest, who had battled hard to produce a winning result, could not sustain the pressure from the spot and three missed penalties helped Charnock to go through 3-1.
That was tough on Tempest after a game in which neither side deserved to lose.
Tempest matched their high-flying opponents in every department but it was Charnock who made the vital breakthrough after 15 minutes when a corner was headed in at the near post.
That only served to strengthen Tempest's resolve but despite have the better of the first half, they were still behind at the interval.
After the break Tempest increased the pressure on their opponents and were finally rewarded with a deserved equaliser, Clint Hibbert curling in a superb free-kick.
After that there were chances at both ends as the two sides went for the winning goal but Tempest keeper Nick Baxter kept his side's hopes alive with two tremendous saves only for his side to finally suffer their penalty heartbreak.
