THE plan for a statue of Nat Lofthouse has rekindled a desire I have always had; that here in Westhoughton something is amiss.
Although we have had our share of famous personalities, such as the famous cricketers Dick Tyldesley, Dick Pollard, Billy Farimond and Mike Watkinson, and the football legends of Jack Bruton, ex-Wanderer Tommy Woodward and World Cup player Francis Lee, also West End actress Jan Holden, the Westhoughton famous son -- stage screen star and author Robert Shaw, who, I am sure, demands the same treatment as does our Nat.
Although we have a hostelry in the name of Robert Shaw now in town, we could do with a bronze statue, preferably in Ditchfield Garden, for everyone to see.

Although we have had our share of famous personalities, such as the famous cricketers Dick Tyldesley, Dick Pollard, Billy Farimond and Mike Watkinson, and the football legends of Jack Bruton, ex-Wanderer Tommy Woodward and World Cup player Francis Lee, also West End actress Jan Holden (have I forgotten someone?), the Westhoughton famous son was stage screen star and author Robert Shaw, who, I am sure, demands the same treatment as does our Nat.
