FRIENDS and colleagues have being paying tribute to a man who was killed as he crossed the road in Bolton.

Kevin Warr, aged 37, of Tonge Fold, Bolton, was involved in an accident with a lorry on Bury Road, near the junction of Hypatia Street at around 11.25pm on Monday night.

He was trapped under the vehicle and was freed by firefighters. He was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Mr Warr was a popular member of a local pool team at the Fox and Stork on Halliwell Road.

Licensee Agnes Hobbs said: "He was a really nice man and a popular member of the pub's pool team. His friends are absolutely devastated."

Police are still appealing for help in tracing a man believed to have been with Mr Warr as they crossed the road together. He has not come forward since the accident.

Mr Warr worked at office supplier Staples, in Ashton-under-Lyne, and had become team leader in the business machine department. Victoria Parkinson, general manager at the store, said: "He was very well liked. It is easy to say that at a time like this, but it was true of Kevin. He had a heart of gold."

The lorry driver was a 52-year-old man from Motherwell, Scotland. He provided a negative drink breath test.

Sgt Barry Fairclough from Bolton Traffic Unit said: "A witness has told us they believe the man who died was with another man at the time of the accident.

"It could just be a coincidence that they were crossing the road at the same time, but we would still like to speak to him."

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the accident to contact them on 0161 856 5972.
