A TEENAGER has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a football fan who died after a town centre clash between supporters.

Andrew McNee, 18, of Osborne Way, Haslingden, was accused of killing Nottingham Forest fan Nathan Shaw before the Division One game in Burnley on Saturday.

He appeared before Burnley magistrates and was remanded in custody until December 18 when he will appear at Preston Crown Court.

Nathan, 17, from Nottingham, was hit on the head by a bottle after trouble broke out between two groups of supporters in St James Street, Burnley.

The teenager was taken to Burnley General Hospital but later transferred to the head injuries unit at Preston Royal Infirmary, where he died on Sunday.

McNee was arrested at his home by police officers early on Monday and was taken to Burnley police station.

Following the incident, Burnley Football Club issued a statement offering its condolences to Nathan's family and manager Stan Ternent urged fans to help police with their inquiries.
