WITH regard to M Houghton's letter (Post bags theft), I feel I have to disagree with some of the points she made.
Items of value are very often sent through the post, such as bank and credit cards.
I was a victim of my post being stolen in a post bag theft. I only found out when I noticed my credit card was being misused. Royal Mail failed to inform me that a theft had taken place and that I could have been affected. This caused me great inconvenience; you cannot report items that have been stolen from the post to the police because you have never had them in your possession. After much fuss I was eventually refunded the money taken by the card fraud.
I was also shocked to read in M Houghton's letter that her husband had to pay for a replacement car window. Does this mean that Royal Mail employees have our mail in private vehicles that are not even fully insured? I find this very worrying.
