FLATS in Astley Bridge are to be converted into a children's day care centre.

The plan, which was passed by Bolton Council's Planning Department, will see part of the three storey terrace house in Seymour Road, currently used as five self contained flats, demolished.

The lounge extension is to be knocked down, but no other alterations will be made to the building.

The new centre will cater for 25 children, with four staff. The premises will be open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with seven car parking spaces provided nearby on Dormer Street.

Greater Manchester Police has recommended increased surveillance over the public entrance area and that the rear of the site should have restricted access. They have also suggested that the front garden should be fully enclosed with railings of 1.5 metres in height.
