AFTER reading the article on January 13 regarding the attempt to bring forward the licensing hours from 11am to 10am, I would like to refer to the comments of Cathy Savage (Bolton Town Centre Company Manager) about what sort of people would want a drink at that time and are they the kind we want in the town centre?
I would suggest that she stands back and has a rethink on her comments.
When she finishes her day's work, if she wishes to participate in a drink of alcohol, then it is possible and acceptable, and the public houses are open.
It appears that she has not taken into account the numerous people who work either nights or shifts. Has she considered that these people may like to participate in a drink after work, or on their way home to unwind. These people do not have the option. They have to wait until 11am. It is possible these people may only wish to have a few drinks.
It is possible these shift workers have come into the town centre early to shop and would like a drink before retiring to bed. It would be nice to have the option.
As for her comment "are they the kind which we want in the town centre", is she referring to the people who are getting their alcohol before 10am from the supermarkets in town? They still go around unchecked.
