A 22-YEAR-OLD man died and three others were injured following a collision between a mini-bus and a car in Astley, near Leigh.
The front seat passenger suffered serious head and chest injuries and died in the intensive care unit at Salford's Hope Hospital.
The man, from Astley, has not been named by police. The accident occurred at the Manchester Road junction with South Lane at 2am yesterday. A blue Ford Transit mini-bus, being driven by 61-year-old Astley man, collided head-on with a red Vauxhall Nova hatchback. The car driver, an 18-year-old man from Astley, suffered bruising and shock. The driver of the mini-bus was left shocked but was unhurt.
A 16-year-old Astley girl had to be cut free from the rear seat of the car and suffered a broken leg. Her condition at Salford's Hope Hospital was today described as stable. The mini-bus was not carrying any passengers at the time of the accident. Witnesses are asked to contact Leigh Police's Traffic Unit on 0161 856 7273/4.
