ALAN Curbishley described Youri Djorkaeff's late equaliser as "fantastic" but believed Wanderers should have been killed off long before.
The Charlton boss was critical of his attacking players who he said frittered away a string of chances to clinch all three points.
"Our defence was solid, in fact I can't remember Dean Kiely making a save, but the players in front of them let us down," he said.
"This was typical of the way we have been playing. We just cannot kill teams off when we have the chance and that fault has cost us dearly again.
"We are going back to what it was like in our first season. Then we would get ourselves ahead in games at The Valley and teams would have to come at us whereas last season we found we were going behind in games and having to come back.
"This season we seem to be getting ourselves in front again like we did today unfortunately we were not able to make the most of our chances.
"The back four played well and they needed the relief of us getting a second goal but the final ball was either not good enough or was ignored.
"It was disappointing to drop two points the way we did but it was a fantastic goal.
"I really could not see it coming though.
"We were never in any danger and I thought we had the three points in the bag. But what happened has happened a few times to us.
"I am very disappointed because we had a couple of great chances to make it 2-0, especially when Jason Euell went clean through just before their goal.
"You have to take those chances or else you leave the way open for teams to get something out of the game. You have to score goals and our problem is that we don't score too many. We paid the price for that today.
"One good thing is that we are making all our chances for ourselves. They are self-created, not served up on a plate. We made all our own chances through sheer determination and workrate.
"But even though we were missing chances to put this game out of reach there were no problems at the other end and I could not see any problems happening before Djorkaeff scored.
"I've heard Say say they have been playing well and not getting anything which is the way things go sometimes. But in this game I really couldn't see them scoring at any time.
"But they did and it has cost us two points which could be important at the end of the season and the point they picked up could be important for them.
"It is going to be a big battle at the bottom. What is interesting is that no team is cast adrift.
"The bottom four are all pretty close on points."
