But central defender Sam Allardyce, the current Wanderers boss, scored a typically powerful header from a set-piece obviously practised on the training ground.
A 78th minute free kick was chipped in by Willie Morgan and the tall defender beat everyone in the air to thump home with an unstoppable bullet.
