WITH Wanderers two goals down in the Coca-Cola Cup Final at Wembley, Bruce Rioch's side needed a miracle to get back into the game and the Geordie winger produced the goods.
Gudni Bergsson - making his Wanderers debut - headed from the right and into the path of Thompson, who controlled on his chest before dispatching a left foot strike on the turn which thundered past David James and into the back of the net.
Rioch commented: "Alan struck it well. It was just what we needed at the time and raised the tempo."
