'BEEF' was better known for his no-nonsense displays in the heart of the Wanderers defence rather than goalscoring efforts during his nine seasons with the club.
But this late equalising strike at Burnden Park was as important as it was impressive, keeping Wanderers in the Sherpa Van Trophy which they would eventually win that season.
The defender was almost 40 yards out when he hit a rocket which caught out goalkeeper Mike Salmon.
Winstanley was as shocked as anyone and said: "I've tried it a couple of times before - but I've either hit the corner flag or the ball has gone out for a throw."
