HOLDERS Walkden stormed into the semi-finals of the Bolton League's indoor cricket competition for the Anthony Axford Trophy after a run spree against Horwich writes Peter Mensforth
The two sides amassed over 300 runs in a big hitting display in a match that would have graced any final.
Walkden set the standard reaching a massive 185-3 with Rob Slater 38 not out, Mike Bennison 34 not out, John Smith 29 not out, Phil Ingram 27 and Dave Smith 23.
Horwich, however, were not daunted by the total and set off on a runs chase with Pete Morris unbeaten on 54 and Martin Ainscough 30 not out but the bowling of Ingram, who took 3-52 proved decisive.
Horwich will now meet Bradshaw in Sunday's first semi-final. An opening stand of 62 from Dave Morris 36 not out and Neil Johnson 23 helped Bradshaw reach 102-4, overhauling Tonge's all out total of 97, Dave Tattersall 3-23 and Simon Anderton 20.
The other semi-final will be contested by Astley Bridge and Eagley.
Bridge beat Farnworth Social Circle with ten balls to spare after Steve Entwistle 26 not out, Will Halton 25 not out and Danny Guest 20 took them to 126-2. That was in reply to a Circle total of 125-3, Dean Eckersley 26 not out with Michael Ashworth and Darren Mullineux both hitting 21.
Eagley were helped on their way by their bowlers and fielders, who dismissed Kearsley for a disappointing 46. Brent Richards led the way taking two for 13 while there were also three run outs. Eagley replied with a winning 47-3.
Walkden and Bradshaw meet at 11.15 with Astley Bridge and Eagley taking guard at 12.30. The final starts at 1.45.
