Campbell Benjamin, 78, who has represented the Breightmet ward for 13 years, was voted into the prestigious office last night by his fellow Labour group councillors, and will take up the office in May.

THE popularity of the Royal Family has suffered following recent revelations about the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales, according to a new poll. And 64 per cent said they felt let down by the Prince, the Princess or both equally. The majority said they still felt the Prince of Wales should be King rather than make way for Prince William.
