THE report of the Audit Commission into schools built under Private Finance Initiative funding arrangements clearly shows the policy to be nonsense.
In many instances, the quality of the buildings is poor compared to those built under conventional public sector finance practices, and there are no savings to the public purse, the reverse being often the reality. Surely the Government should heed their own watch-dog institution, and end this policy which is doing so much damage to education, the National Health Service and other essential public services?
