GARDENING equipment, educational toys and a football team kit are just some of the items which money from the Let's Get Involved in Great Lever community projects fund is helping to buy.
It is also paying for a local multi-cultural celebration.
In its second round of grants, the fund has given £8,683 to 18 projects in Great Lever. The aim is to get people involved in their community to make the area a better place to live in.
The Fund is part of the Great Lever Neighbourhood Management initiative and grants go to groups that involve people from that area, which covers parts of the Derby, Harper Green and Burnden council wards. Grants, up to £500 were awarded to the following groups and projects:
Crafts & Chat -- Large scale games that the elderly will be able to see and handle easily
The Stepping Stones -- Part-funding of a computer to produce a newsletter and other material
Nai Zindagi -- New Life -- gardening supplies and equipment for allotment PATS -- Educational toys
Dunbar Residents Association -- Start-up and on-going costs
St William of York RCP -- Outdoor seating for nursery garden
Bradford Road Football Club -- Kit
St Simon & St Jude's ADS -- Towards refurbishment of community kitchen
Roseneath Residents' Association -- Home Watch street signs and other home safety equipment
Sunnyside Residents' & Tenants' Association -- Over 50s group Christmas trip to get more people involved
Great Lever Vets Bowling Club -- New bowls and jacks
Hayward Residents' Association -- Christmas Trip
Sangam of Great Lever -- Multi-cultural celebration for local people and other community groups
Maltby Residents' Association -- Flowers and bulbs for landscaping
Harmony Youth Project -- Develop existing youth work
RV Mission -- Indian music and dance evening to introduce people of all cultures to this art form
Friends of Sunnyside Park -- Set up costs of group to encourage more people to get involved in looking after the Park
Dosti Women's Group -- Activity Sessions, cooking demonstrations and other costs.
Councillor Margaret Clare, Chairman of the Great Lever Neighbourhood Management Partnership Board, said: "The Community Projects Fund helps to support those activities which are playing an important part in making the area a better place to live and work."
The deadline for the next round of grants is Friday, February 14. Groups who meet the assessment criteria can apply for a maximum of £1,000, and priority will be given to small groups which don't have access to other financial support.
