I STRONGLY disagree with the assertion from Mr Cox and the Horwich and Blackrod Liberal Democrats, that "this Labour authority has done little for people who live in the peripheral areas of the town" (Bolton Evening News, January 21)
On the contrary, new schools, good social services, and the work of the Area Fora indicate otherwise. The recent "good" assessment of overall performance of a council that serves the entire Metropolitan Borough seems to have been intentionally forgotten. Either they do not recognise success, or they do not wish to recognise it. Moreover, the council's determination to introduce traffic calming measures to improve road safety is widely known, as evidenced by the recent letters published in the Bolton Evening News.
The original point of their letter, namely the problems suffered by residents of Crown Lane, I fully appreciate. I, and many others, want to see proposals that would improve the situation for residents. It is a pity that the letter from Mr Cox ended in an unjustified attack on our Labour-controlled council.
