FORMER pupils and staff of an Astley Bridge primary school are urged to get together for a special series of events this summer.

Chalfont Community School will be amalgamating with Wolfenden Primary School to become The Valley School this year.

Staff at Chalfont School, which is in Chalfont Street, are planning a series of special events to commemorate the closure.

The school opened in November 1891, during the reign of Queen Victoria and was considered an architectural masterpiece.

But 111 years later, The Valley School is also scheduled to be a building masterpiece and will be one of the first purpose built "environmentally friendly" schools in the country.

The £3.4 million school will be fitted with special windows which retain heat and a water recovery system to catch and store rain water to use for flushing the toilets.

A series of reunions are being scheduled for this June for former Chalfont pupils.

They are asked to write to Year Six teacher, Alison Mangan, who said: "I have taught at the school for 27 years, so these events mean a lot to me."

It is hoped former pupils and staff will provide the dates they attended the school and a few biographical details of what they are doing now.

If they enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope, they will then receive details of forthcoming events.

Local businesses are also urged to contact the school if they want to sponsor the events.

All letters should be addressed to Mrs Mangan, Chalfont Community School, Bolton, BL1 8JS.
