MORE than 30 train services cancelled since September are to be restored following the recruitment of new drivers.

The First North Western services will be restored next week following the success of a long-running intensive recruitment drive.

However, passengers will be disappointed that the drivers' union ASLEF has ruled that its members will still not work on their rest days - meaning some services through Bolton will remain cancelled.

The union agreed to accept a 19 per cent pay deal last week after a long dispute, ending planned strikes next week, but wants to see other improvements in industrial relations before drivers can work on their rest days.

It is due to speak with the company again next month.

FNW runs services through Bolton to Manchester, Preston, Blackpool and Liverpool.
