WITH six Air Miles Manchester League Premier Division clashes ruled out due to heavy overnight rain, Irlam MS stole a march on the rest of the chasing pack with a 2-1 win at Elton Vale to fuel hopes of a charge up the table.
Craig Mills and Nicky Irlam fired Mitchells into a two goal half-time lead and, though the Bury side scored through Derek Watson - his 13th of a prolific season - there was no way back for Elton.
Breightmet United moved into second spot in the First Division, behind Ashton, with a convincing 4-0 home win over Whalley Range.
Gary Goodinson hit a hat-trick for United with Gary McShane adding the fourth.
Tintwistle Villa put in a fine defensive display to claim a point from a 1-1 draw at Unsworth, Phil Smith netting for the home side and Ian Loman for Villa.
