HAVING just driven past our local fire station and witnessed the firefighters striking once more, I have decided to share my feelings and tell this story.
It was four days before Christmas 2002, and I awoke at around 5am to a loud banging noise. I went downstairs to investigate. I could hear screaming and glass being smashed. I opened the door and was shocked by what met me.
The smoke was intense the cries and screams for help sent shivers down my spine -- was I dreaming?
Then out of the smoke came the firefighters, one carrying two small boys with black faces to safety from their burning bedroom, before rescuing their parents.
No, I wasn't dreaming, our neighbour's house was on fire. But it was definitely angels I could see. Guardian Angels! They deserve every penny they are fighting for.
