THE new headteacher of a Bolton primary school is determined pupils will not only receive top quality education but also an introduction to Manchester City Football Club.
Nigel Ashton the new head of Roscow Fold CP School in Breightmet is an avid Man City fan and is hoping to persuade a few of the children to become supporters of his favourite team as well.
The 52-year-old father of two grown up daughters is bringing 30 years of teaching experience with him to the 195 pupil strong school in Stephens Street.
He trained as a teacher at Mather College, Manchester, in the early 1970s, starting work as a teacher in 1972.
He has been a headteacher for the past 12 years with his last post at a primary school in Hattersley, which closed in July 2002 as part controversial Private Finance Initiative.
His move to Roscow Fold is the first time in his career that he has worked outside Tameside, where he still lives. And for the first time he will be working at a school which has a nursery.
He said: "What I really want to do is try and provide the best education for the people and parents here. I am keen that we all have high expectations, both teachers and pupils themselves."
Mr Ashton already has a number of ideas he wants to explore at his new school, including a new multi-media resource centre.
