CHORLEY Lynx progressed to the fourth round of the Challenge Cup with a victory over amateurs Leigh Miners - securing a fifth round home draw against Swinton.

Lynx had a frustrating first half and on seven minutes Miners went ahead when Alan Beath made no mistake with a penalty after Lynx had been pulled up for an offence in the tackle.

Chorley conceded a string of penalties culminating in the 10th minute with the double sin-binning of John Braddish and Dave Ingram. It led to Miners best spell of pressure, but their only reward came in the 14th minute with a try from ex-Lynx man Alan Reddicliffe.

Lynx hit back in the 18th minute with a try from Chris Ramsdale after a quick tap penalty caught out the Miners defence.

Chorley managed to nose ahead in the 27th minute when Dave Whittle went in under the posts with Braddish adding the conversion.

Miners reduced the deficit with a Beath penalty but two minutes from half-time Lynx gave themselves breathing space with a try from Tim Street, converted by John Braddish, to give them a 16-8 advantage.

From the start of the second half Lynx were in control and they increased their lead in the 52nd minute with a try from Mick Redford and on the hour mark they virtually sealed victory with a try from Anton Garcia, converted by Braddish.

Two further tries from Dave McConnell and Mick Redford, with another conversion from Braddish, followed but Miners had the last word on the final hooter when Lee Patterson scored the try of the game with Beath adding the conversion.
