IN the Warburton Cup Division Two outfit Hilton C produced the biggest surprise with victory over Premier team Lostock by a decisive 6-3 margin. Trebles were recorded by Mark Willows and John Brinkworth.
Ramsbottom B giving five points start to Mosses A won a close match 5-4, with Larry Bainbridge taking the final deciding set.
Division Two side Ladybridge B also won a close match with Division One leaders Nomads A 5-4. There were two wins for Alan Hardman and Paul Whyatt, plus one by Dave Harris. Cricketers and Ramsbottom A, went into the next round on a walkover.
In the Brian Gittins Cup seven teams are through to the next round with one match outstanding.
Premier teams Hilton A, Little Lever A, Cricketers and Wharton A all recorded comfortable wins. Steve Crook trebled for the Hilton team who beat Ladybridge A 5-4 with two players. Little Lever A surprisingly beat Farnworth 6-3 which included three wins by the in-form Ron Durose.
Cricketers ran out 8-1 winners against Wharton B who received five points start, and Glen Payne trebled for Wharton A in their 6-3 win against Mosses A. Hilton B beat fellow Division One team Heaton A 5-3, with three wins by Paul Branwood and two by Chris Byrne. Chorley Old Road are through to the next round on a walkover and Wingates received a bye.
The George Yates Shield produced some interesting results with six teams from Division Three in the hat for the next round. Perhaps the best win of the round was by Heaton E who beat their C team from Division Two 5-4, with a seven point start the star performance was by Andy Riley, who scored a treble which included the last set on the night to clinch the win.
Meadow Hill A won 5-3 against BEN A from Division Two, with three wins by Steve Jones and two from Phil Noden. All three Ladybridge C players John Birchall, Brian Greenhalgh and Brian Lingwood won two sets each to dispose of Second Division Rammy C, and Little Lever D scored a comfortable 5-0 win at Halliwell Meths .
Hilton E also triumphed over Second Division opposition Egerton Park winning 7-2, which included three wins by Siful Khan. Three wins by Alan Bradshaw, plus two apiece by Adam Smart and Tony Mason gave Hilton H their 7-0 win over their D team, and Halls received a walkover into the next round leaving one result outstanding at this time.
In the Ron Hindle Trophy the three matches played all finished with a 5-4 scoreline. Jubilee on plus five beat Hilton I with two wins each for Richard Reading and Richard Pullen, plus one by David Miller. YMCA giving Ladybridge F six points start ran out winner thanks to three wins by Ray Wheatly and two by Alan Weall, and two wins apiece by Jack Smith and Phil Yates plus one by Peter Holden gave Meadow Hill C their win against Ladybridge E. One match result remains outstanding.
The Hilton Centre annual meeting is at the centre on Friday February 7, starting at 7pm, any league member is welcome to attend.
