THE new police commissioner for the Solomon Islands was due to be sworn in to his post later.
William Morrell is a former chief superintendent of Greater Manchester Police. His new job is funded by the European Union and the UK Government.
The South Pacific nation has suffered a four-year civil war which bankrupted the economy and left serious law and order problems.
Mr Morrell, aged 47, is due to start officially on Friday.
