TO my delight I read that the campaign to save The Water Place continues.
Did those who described it as a failure ever experience the fun of going down the chutes, or witness the pleasure of those who did?
How many of our councillors have ever put toe in water there? Why are they so uncommitted to saving it (compare the enthusiasm with which they supported the raising of funds for the Thomas Moran painting)?
This pool complex was no failure, even when annual visitor numbers were at their lowest of 230,000. This was an average of 630 people for every day of the year. What other attraction brings so many people into Bolton on a daily basis? What other attraction encourages so much activity in both young and old?
I beg the council to listen with an open mind to the businessman who aims to save The Water Place. It is a facility which helps to make Bolton special.
