IN reply to R Taylor's letter of January 24 regarding the "price we will have to pay for speed humps", I feel quite incensed.
I consider a child's life to be a very high price to pay. I live on Cloister Street and there are several families with young children, including myself. Children have been knocked down in this street. To say that the roads in this area are roads on which no one breaks the speed limit is ridiculous.
Maybe R Taylor would like to take a short stroll down here and see what I see every day -- ie cars and lorries exceeding 40 mph. How someone has not been killed is a miracle. Anyone worried about damage to their cars may be interested to know speed humps are meant to slow you down, so if you do drive carefully there'll be no damage.
As for being consulted about the plans -- we all received letters and a street map of the area, the proposed plans and a questionnaire. Also signs have been posted on lamp posts.
If R Taylor is worried about house prices, maybe they should sell no!
