Westhoughton Amateur Swimming Club was founded over 20 years ago and during that time hundreds of younsters have learned to swim or improved their skills through the dedication of the volunteers who run the club.
All teaching volunteers are trained instructors and the club meets at Westhoughton Community Leisure Centre every week. Anyone can join from children at 4 years old who learn to swim in the small pool to older children who wish to improve their swimming technique and adults who want to learn or polish up their style.
Membership costs just £10 per year and what you get is a great deal of fun. The club is not a competitive organisation and exists for swimmers to enjoy the water and be safe in it.
Beginners lessons take place in the small pool on Fridays at 7.30pm to 8pm and 8pm to 8.30pm and cost £15 for 10 lessons.
There is also an open session in the large pool on Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm. Trial sessions take place on the first Wednesday in every month for new starters.
The club is also interested in recruiting training volunteers and assistants. Anyone interested should contact John Tudor on 652456.
