A FORMER chairman of Worsley Urban District Council has died at the age of 81.
Betty Meeson, of Hulton Avenue, Little Hulton, was a member of the Worsley Council from 1958 until it merged into Salford City Council in 1974.
She was chairman of the authority in 1966.
Mrs Meeson had a strong interest in education and was, for many years, the chairman of the Joseph Eastham High School and a governor of Bolton College.
Within the Labour Party she was a member of the National Women's Committee and its delegate to the International Labour Organisation.
She married in 1959. Her husband, Norman, died some years ago. The funeral was due to take place at Peel Green Crematorium today.
