FURTHER to the recent article by Mr David Crookes, on January 22, headlined "Leisure Centres take over bid by Bolton Arena".
I was absolutely amazed to read that the council's flagship Bolton Arena is making a loss and requires council funding (our council tax) to operate. There are David Lloyd and Total Fitness facilities in Bolton and I am sure they both make handsome profits for their companies. Bolton Arena has all the facilities that these private clubs have and does not have to run expensive swimming pool facilities, so why can't it make a profit?
I do not understand how this council can seriously consider any bid by Bolton Arena to run other Council leisure centres when it cannot make profits from its own building.
The council has a duty to spend our council tax wisely. It is about time it took this duty seriously when it comes to providing leisure facilities for residents.
