WE would like to congratulate Bolton Council's Traffic Management team and the efforts and involvement of the late Cllr Peter Birch on the implementation of the "Haulgh Triangle" residents only parking scheme.
It is the best thing that has happened to this area, from being packed solid with town centre workers' cars, and even football supporters' vehicles on match days. It is interesting to note that Horwich residents do not suffer similarly on match days.
The scheme has taken six years to reach its present stage. Various meetings were held at the Spiritualist Church and all the residents in the triangle were informed by letter beforehand. People in Farnworth are selfishly expressing that their own interests over-ride the feelings of the residents who had to face a daily onslaught of people who treated the area as a free town centre car park, leaving vehicles for up to eight hours every day outside other people's homes.
Barbara Harrison complains about spending on visitors' permits. Residents have to buy a permit for £30 (58p weekly when broken down for the year) plus the charge for visitors' permits.
The benefits have been well worth it.
1. Area now much quieter, no car alarms going off for hours.
2. Emergency services unrestricted access.
3. Streets cleaner, no litter dumped from cars.
4. Street gullies can be cleaned, no vehicles parked over them.
5. Some residents able to put dustbins outside properties instead of wheeling them to a pick-up point.
6. Vehicles can deliver to households without blocking streets.
7. Residents' vehicles damaged in the past due to congestion.
8. Safer for children to play.
9. Disabled ramps on footpath radius not blocked by vehicles.
10. Removal of untaxed vehicles.
We are sure that the residents in the "triangle" have also noticed a considerable improvement in the area and will continue to support it.
