WEST Brom boss Gary Megson knows that only a victory over Wanderers next Saturday will do.
The Hawthorns has endured a tough initiation in the Premiership with only two wins in the last 19 matches rooting them firmly in the relegation zone.
They are favourites for relegation along with Wanderers and Megson refuses to acknowledge the plaudits which have come his club's way.
Charlton manager Alan Curbishley, who knows a thing or two about keeping small clubs in the top flight, praised the way Megson and the Baggies are going about business in their first Premiership season. The Valley boss can see similarities with when the Addicks went down four years ago, bounced back immediately - and became a stronger club for the experience.
It is meant as a compliment but Megson is refusing to contemplate the prospect of returning to Division One.
He said: "You are not going to get me to say that if we go down and come back up then we will be stronger for it. We will do everything we can to stay here. I wouldn't be the first manager to say 'we're going to come back stronger'. We don't want to go anywhere which means we have to come back.
"The club said that 17 years ago, that it would come back stronger, and it was in the wilderness for all that time until last April. We don't want to start saying that.
"Alan is correct in the respect that he looks at how we run the ship and do things and thinks it is right - but to be honest it is the only way we can do it."
