A 26 year old man branded a racist has escaped a custodial sentence, after verbally abusing the owner of a Kebab shop.
John McAllister, a father of two, of Whittam Road, Chorley, pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated public order offence.
He was sentenced to an 80-hour community punishment order and a two-year community rehabilitation order.
Louise Whaites, prosecuting, told Preston Crown Court the offence had taken place in the early hours of June 22 last year and involved the Turkish Kebab shop in Market Street, Chorley.
Russell Edmundson, defending, said McAllister recognised his behaviour was unacceptable. During the course of being ejected from the shop, McAllister had received an injury to his lip.
McAllister wished to apologise. No violence was used and he had co-operated with the police.
Judge Andrew Blake told McAllister: "It is quite astonishing people like you accused of racial abuse always say 'I'm not a racist.'
"You are, of course, a racist. The trouble is, of course, that you don't recognise it."
