CONTROVERSIAL plans to demolish an historic barn and adjoining cottage in Isherwood Fold, Edgworth, were recommended for refusal by North Turton Parish Council.
Protesters used red paint to write "Save Me" on the barn's door before the council's meeting on Monday.
They fear any new development, likely to be three storeys high, would be out of character with the Fold, which is thought to be one of the oldest in Lancashire.
Under the plans, the barn and cottage, dating back to the 1700s, would be demolished to make way for a modern new home and detached garage. The parish council recommended that the plans be refused.
The barn's fate will now be decided at the next planning meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, due to be held later this month.
