A MEMORIAL garden will be built in tribute to tragic seven-year-old Ryan Mason.

The garden will be created at Queen Street primary school where the youngster was a pupil before his death two weeks ago.

Ryan's father, Greg Pickup, wanted a lasting reminder of his son to be built at the school and staff were also keen to create something permanent in his memory.

Sheila Holland, headteacher at Queen Street school, said the final plan of the garden had not been finalised, but they hoped to organise something as quickly as possible.

She said: "We've not decided on the ins and outs, but a memorial garden is one of the suggestions we've received in tribute of Ryan.

"We're thinking along the lines of planting shrubs in tubs at the front of the school with seating to create a quiet area for the children. We also want to put a plaque up for Ryan."

The tribute to Ryan will be moved when the school merges with Bridgewater Nursery and becomes Queensbridge School at a new site in St Germain Street, Farnworth, in September.

Ryan, who had been missing for two days before his death, died of multiple injuries and his body was found in a bin bag at Great Lever and Farnworth Golf Course. A 22-year-old man has been charged with Ryan's murder.

Ryan's funeral will be held tomorrow at Overdale West Chapel at noon.

Anyone who would like to contribute towards the memorial garden can make cheques payable to: Queen Street Community Primary School, c/o Howarth's Funeral Service, Balfron House, 2 Balmoral Road, Farnworth, BL4 9HR.
