AS I journey in and around Bolton it strikes me that this town has more than its fair share of ugly modern buildings.
The BMW showrooms on Bradshawgate, The Crompton Place frontage on Bradshawgate, The Crown Courts and Elizabeth House to mention but a few.
There are no modern buildings of note. These have replaced Victorian buildings -- built to last -- until the council got their hands on them. Has anyone seen Little Bolton Town Hall recently? What a damn shame.
Even The Crescent and Town Hall need some tlc. Has anyone seen the doors? They need either some paint or varnish and, what brass handles remain, certainly need a good polish . So if the council cannot even be bothered with their own public buildings -- then what hope has Bolton got, to even compete, with that piece of classic architectural pile that is the Trafford Centre -- no contest.
