IN reply to B Brabin and D Lilly, whose letters on Monday, February 3, praised the Council for implementing the "Haulgh Triangle" residents-only parking scheme.

May I point out that they are in a very small minority, and I have in my possession a petition that proves it! Ninety per cent against.

My admiration goes out to residents who have been booked, and are still, thank God, refusing to stump up for the right to park outside one's own door. Something I have managed to achieve for 15 years without too much trouble -- and certainly without paying.

If the letter writers have had trouble getting their rubbish removed, again I suggest they are in a minority, and I can assure you that it is much less safer for children because vehicles now speed down the street.

Mr Brabbin and D Lilly seem to forget that they live in a terraced area with all the baggage that this entails. Some of us are realistic.

My sympathies to the pensioner of 82 years in Dorset Street, who, by the time her tired legs had taken her to the drawer where her visitor's permit (50p each visit) was -- found that her mobile hairdresser had been booked, and has had to pay the fine herself. What a ridiculous state of affairs! I shall be appealing to the parking services on her behalf.
