Biker is seriously

hurt in crash

A MAN suffered multiple fractures to his neck and back after his high-powered motorbike was involved in an accident with a car.

The 40-year-old man -- who has not been named -- also suffered fractures to his left wrist and right leg.

His condition at the Royal Bolton Hospital was today described as serious although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The accident happened at 4.15pm last night on Church Road, Astley as the man was riding his Suzuki 600CC towards Tyldesley.

A police spokesman said as he reached the junction with Astley Hall Drive he was involved in a collision with a VW Golf -- being driven by a 25-year-old woman from Leigh. The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and dangerous driving. She was due to be interviewed today.
