THE WEATHER again took its toll this week with only three games surviving in the BSF Over 35s League.
In Division One, Colliers Rest were plunged deeper into the relegation mire after a defeat at the hands of Breightmet United. Goals from John Dobson and Mick Kolojeski opened up a comfortable 2-0 lead for Breightmet United, but they then succeeded in missing plenty of chances to finish off the match.
A second half goal from Roy Naylor set up a tight finish, and Colliers Rest almost stole a point late on, but Breightmet held on for a deserved win.
The highlight in Division Two this week was a top of the table clash between leaders Hare Athletic and second placed Hayward Old Boys, with the winners looking likely to go on and take the title.
The match was a close affair, but any hopes Hayward had for closing the gap disappeared when they were trailing 1-0 and then lost their goalkeeper.
Goals from Paul Hill and two from Rob Speight opened up a 3-0 advantaged for Hare, and although Del Schofield scored a consolation goal late on, Hayward knew early on that their fate was sealed.
The Newmarket moved up three places to fourth spot with a convincing 4-1 away win at Bolton Wyresdale.
Bolton opened the scoring and held the lead until half time, but playing down hill and with the wind at their backs, Newmaket scored four second half goals to run out comfortable winners. The highlight of the match was a T Powell hat-trick and P Evans chipped in with one as well.
All the other matches were lost to the poor weather.
