CHORLEY Council is campaigning to prevent people falling prey to bogus callers.
Along with Chorley's Multi-Agency Problem Solving (MAPS) team council staff are working to raise awareness and encourage people to say "no" to suspicious callers.
Councillor Dennis Edgerley, executive member for community safety, said: "It is a sad fact but most people, especially the elderly, have been pressured into buying something or into letting a stranger into their homes. The MAP team has come up with some simple, clear advice which could help prevent a great deal of heartache."
He urged people in doubt to: Be polite but firm; give yourself time to think; always use the door chain when answering the door; ask to see an identity card and if uncertain, ask the caller to make an appointment when you can arrange for somebody to be with you.
